UPSC EPFO Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner 2026

The Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (APFC) is a Group 'A', non-ministerial post in the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation — a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour & Employment. UPSC has announced direct recruitment to 80 such posts for 2026 through Special Advertisement No. 52/2026.

What the job involves

APFC officers carry statutory, administrative and supervisory responsibility across EPFO. The notification lists duties relating to:

Educational qualification

A Degree from a recognised University or equivalent.

UPSC lists a Diploma in Company Law, Labour Laws or Public Administration as desirable. These are desirable, not essential — a candidate holding the required Bachelor's Degree can apply without any of them, provided all other conditions are met.

Age is reckoned as on the closing date, 11 September 2026 — the same date that determines eligibility generally.

Citizenship

Candidates must satisfy the citizenship conditions prescribed by UPSC. Eligible categories include citizens of India, subjects of Nepal and Bhutan, certain Tibetan refugees, and certain persons of Indian origin who have migrated from specified countries. Where a certificate of eligibility is required, the conditions specified by the Government of India apply.

Selection process

Stage 1 is a pen-and-paper Recruitment Test conducted by UPSC. Stage 2 is an Interview, for which candidates are shortlisted on the basis of the Recruitment Test and the information furnished in their applications.

Analyse past UPSC EPFO papers before you start studying, not after. They reveal question framing, difficulty, repeated concepts, how heavily labour law is weighted, how current affairs is integrated, the static-versus-dynamic balance, and the real difficulty of the mathematics and accountancy sections.

The syllabus is broad, but it is not random. Splitting it into five buckets makes it schedulable.

Buckets 2 to 4 are what separate this exam from a general studies paper. A candidate who is strong at bucket 1 and weak at bucket 2 will not clear it.

UPSC has notified 84 centres for the Recruitment Test, including Delhi, Jammu, Srinagar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Patna, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore, Gurugram, Ludhiana, Hisar, Dehradun and Shimla, among others.

Eligible candidates receive an e-Admit Card before the Recruitment Test, made available on the UPSC website. The exact release date is announced by UPSC and had not been notified at the time of writing.
