SSC Junior Engineer (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Telecom) Examination 2026

The Junior Engineer Examination recruits engineers for central government organisations such as CPWD, MES, BRO and the Central Water Commission. From 2026 the same examination also recruits Scientific Assistants for the India Meteorological Department. All posts are Group B at Level 6 of the pay matrix (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400).

SSC published the notice on 2 September 2026 with 1,748 tentative vacancies. Applications close at 11 PM on 22 September 2026.

The notice gives only the total. SSC publishes post-wise and category-wise tentative vacancies on ssc.gov.in under For Candidates, Tentative Vacancy. SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise figures; those come from the user department.

Age limit (as on 1 August 2026)

The upper limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC and ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for PwBD (unreserved and EWS), 13 years for PwBD (OBC), 15 years for PwBD (SC and ST), and 3 years for ex-servicemen after deducting military service.

Educational qualification (on 22 September 2026)

• Most JE posts accept a degree or diploma in the relevant branch — Civil, Electrical or Mechanical.
• BRO, DGQA-Naval and MES accept a diploma only with two years of relevant working experience; a degree needs none.
• DG Lighthouses & Lightships accepts a diploma only with three years of experience.
• JE (Telecom): a bachelor's degree in engineering or technology in electrical, electronics, communications, computer science, telecommunications, IT or instrumentation.
• Scientific Assistant (IMD): a B.Sc. with Physics, or a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer applications, electronics, telecommunications, instrumentation, IT or communication engineering.
• Results must have been declared by the closing date. Being processed by the university is not enough.

Pay online by BHIM UPI, net banking, or a Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay debit card, by 11 PM on 23 September 2026.

Paper-I — 2 hours

Paper-II — 2 hours

• Paper-I is qualifying. Separate merit lists for Civil, Electrical & Mechanical, IMD and Telecom decide who sits Paper-II.
• Questions are in Hindi and English.
• An on-screen scientific calculator is available, and the IS 456:2000 tables and steam tables are provided on screen where needed. Physical calculators and tables are not allowed.
• Candidates eligible for a scribe get 2 hours 40 minutes per paper.

2. 2Open the Junior Engineer Examination, 2026 application and choose the post and engineering part that match your qualification.
3. 3Pay the ₹100 fee online by 23 September 2026 unless you are exempt.
4. 4Submit before 11 PM on 22 September 2026 and keep a copy.
5. 5Use the correction window on 28–30 September 2026 to fix mistakes; correction charges apply.
