4,029 Junior Engineer, DMS and CMA posts at Pay Level 6.
Railway Recruitment Boards recruit Junior Engineers, Depot Material Superintendents and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistants for Indian Railways under Centralised Employment Notice CEN 04/2026. The posts are at Pay Level 6, with a starting basic pay of ₹35,400.
The detailed notice listed 3,993 vacancies. A corrigendum then added 35 Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant posts and one JE / Electrical / TRS post, taking the total to 4,029.

Eligibility
Age on 1 January 2027, and qualification by the closing date.

Further relaxation applies to ex-servicemen, PwBD candidates and the other categories listed in the notice.
Educational qualification
- Junior Engineer: a three-year diploma or a degree in the relevant engineering discipline. The exact disciplines accepted for each post are listed in Annexure A of the notice.
- Depot Material Superintendent: a diploma or degree in engineering.
- Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant: a B.Sc. with Physics and Chemistry.
- The qualification had to be held by 13 September 2026. Candidates still awaiting final results were not eligible to apply.

Application fee
Mostly refunded if you sit CBT-1.

Refunds are paid only to candidates who actually appear in CBT-1, less bank charges.
EBC is not OBC or EWS
The ₹250 concession for Economically Backward Class is its own category. The notice warns candidates not to confuse it with OBC, with EWS, or with the Extremely Backward Class certificates some state governments issue.

Exam pattern
CBT-1 to shortlist, CBT-2 for merit.
Both stages are computer-based objective tests. CBT-1 decides who moves on to CBT-2.

Negative marking
One-third of a mark is deducted for every wrong answer. In CBT-2, two-thirds of the paper is your own technical discipline, so that is where most of the marks are.
