Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (APFC)

Eligibility restriction

Of the 80 vacancies, 3 are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). The notification specifies which disability categories the post has been identified as suitable for — check it before applying under this quota.

A Group 'A', non-ministerial, permanent post carrying All India Service liability, with headquarters at New Delhi. Officers may be posted anywhere in India. Duties span enforcement, recovery, accounts, administration, cash, legal matters, pension and computer/MIS functions — including conducting inquiries, settling claims, maintaining the Cash Book, reconciling bank statements and filing MIS returns.

Eligibility

A Degree from a recognised University or equivalent. UPSC lists a Diploma in Company Law, Labour Laws or Public Administration as desirable — but these are not essential, so a graduate may apply without them. Maximum age 35 for UR/EWS, 38 for OBC and 40 for SC/ST, reckoned as on 11 September 2026.

Exam pattern

Selection is in two stages. The Recruitment Test is a pen-and-paper objective paper of 300 marks over 2 hours, set in English and Hindi, with 1/3 of the marks assigned to a question deducted for each wrong answer and nothing deducted for a question left blank. Candidates shortlisted from the Recruitment Test are called for an Interview carrying 100 marks. Final merit is Recruitment Test to Interview in a 75:25 ratio. The notification specifies total marks, duration, equal marks per question and the negative-marking rule, but does not fix a question count — so no question count is published here as an official figure.
